Vista Irrigation District’s Board of Directors adopted a resolution recognizing July 2024 as Lakes Appreciation Month in support of the North American Lakes Management Society’s (NALMS) Lakes Appreciation Month outreach program at its meeting today.

Vista Irrigation District understands the importance of lakes first hand; the District owns Lake Henshaw, which is located at the base of Palomar Mountain in northeast San Diego County. Lake Henshaw has been a water supply for the communities that Vista Irrigation District serves since 1926. It also provides recreation opportunities for locals and out of town visitors alike. July is a great time to set aside some time to appreciate the lakes and reservoirs, such as Lake Henshaw, that provide so many benefits to our lives.

NALMS, whose mission is to foster the protection and management of lakes and reservoirs, created Lakes Appreciation Month to focus attention on the value of lakes and reservoirs to society. Lakes and reservoirs are used for a variety of purposes, including as water supply for municipal, industrial and agricultural use; recreation; flood control; and aesthetic enjoyment. July is a great time to set aside some time to appreciate the lakes and reservoirs, such as Lake Henshaw, that provide so many benefits to our lives.

Vista Irrigation District is a public agency governed by an elected five-member board.  The district provides water service to roughly 130,000 people in the city of Vista, and portions of San Marcos, Escondido, Oceanside, and unincorporated areas of the county of San Diego.
