Ethics Training and Fiscal and Financial Training

Ethics Training

Assembly Bill 1234 requires elected officials, appointed officials, and designated employees of local agencies to complete ethics training every two years, as specified in Government Code §53234. This training is intended to ensure individuals who serve in decision-making or advisory roles understand the ethical standards and legal obligations that apply to public service. Training is required every two years and must be completed within six months of assuming office (starting January 1, 2026).  It is important to note that officials who assumed office prior to January 1, 2026, must complete their training by January 1, 2027, so some records may not yet be available.

Fiscal and Financial Management Training

Senate Bill 827 requires specified elected agency officials, appointed officials, and designated employees who have authority over, or provide recommendations related to, public finances to complete fiscal and financial management training, as codified in Government Code §53238. This training is designed to provide participants with a foundational understanding of public agency finances and fiduciary responsibilities. Training is required every two years and must be completed within six months of assuming office (starting January 1, 2026). It is important to note that officials who assumed office prior to January 1, 2026, must complete their first training by January 1, 2028, so some records may not yet be available.
